2025 Bursary | Comber Agricultural Society

We are very appreciative of our 2025 Comber Fair Bursary Sponsors for enabling us to award eight recipients each $2000 bursaries. The recipients and sponsors were recognized during the Comber Fair opening ceremonies.

Here are our 2025 recipients:
Meredith Anderson, Ridgetown
  • First year University of Guelph Bachelor of Commerce in Food and Agriculture Business
  • While growing up and working on the family grain farm Meredith appreciated the physical and mental hard work that goes into food production; such as decisions regarding inputs, time spent maintaining equipment and dealing with unpredictable weather.
  • Future goal is to continue to be involved in the agriculture industry while teaching where she can impress on a younger generation the importance of food production and appreciation for the farmers that make it possible
Katherine Budzik, Ruscom Station
  • First year University of Windsor, Honour Bachelor of Science, Honours Biological Science
  • While working at Erie Wildlife Rescue, Katherine learned the importance of preserving Canada’s natural ecosystem and biodiversity.
  • Future goal is to become a wildlife/ conservation biologist to show the need to protect species and ecosystems that support agriculture, such as preserving natural rodent predators, using biodiversity to maintain healthy soils and water quality and fostering a balance ecosystem to create a sustainable environment for wildlife and agriculture
Meagan Chorba, Leamington
  • Alumni of University of Windsor, Second Year University College Dublin (Ireland) Veterinary Medicine
  • While studying Integrative Biology in her Undergraduate program Meagan joined and benefited from associations that passionately advocated women in science.
  • Future goal is to become a large animal veterinarian in Windsor/ Essex County promoting “One Health” to obtain optimal health between humans, animals and the environment which are all interconnected
Connor Clifford, Maidstone
  • First year St-Clair College in Electrical Techniques
  • While participating in a co-op as a firefighter Connor learned that most barn fires are due to electrical issues and malfunctions of electrical devices.
  • Future goal is to become a firefighter, a profession which will allow him time to continue with his career in the electrical trade and to continue with helping to work his family’s small farm of vegetables, fruit and grain crops
Rowyn Deline, Chatham
  • Second Year University of Windsor, Political Sciences
  • While assisting gamily with the operation of her late grandparents farm, Rowyn became more aware of domestic and global issues that impact food security, production, distribution, consumption and trade.
  • Future goal is to have a career advocating for optimal land use planning to protect farm land and to develop a better understanding of trade agreements and international relations to protect the viability of all farms no matter their size
Jamie Lynn Drew, Tilbury
  • First year University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus in Agriculture Program
  • While working with her family on their farm which included both grains, livestock and horses Jamie learned the value in rewards of hard and cooperative work.
  • Future goal is to proudly continue operating the family farm where exploration and application of different seeds, fertilizers and sprays will improve its productivity. As well, Jamie hopes to work as an agronomist and continue being involved in programs like Corteva’s Cornshare
Rowan Guy, Merlin
  • First year University of Guelph, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
  • While working on the family farm Rowan developed the desire to maintain the farm within the family and to utilize new technologies and innovations to improve its productivity.
  • Future goal is to work in an area of the agriculture industry to be hands on with the production of crops while advising customers
Simon Kauffman, Leamington
  • First year University of Waterloo, Environment, Resources and Sustainability, Honours Co-op
  • Having witnessed the effects of continued climate change and the disruption of weather patterns, Simon realized that farmers who all rely on the weather for their livelihood need expert advice to maintain their farm sustainability and thus secure our food systems.
  • Future goal is to work in an area where he can either contribute to policy development or do field research in order to advise farmers how to implement strategies to adapt to evolving environmental shifts.
